Ayurvedic Home Remedies for a Mucocele

A mucocele is a harmless cyst and also known as an oral cyst, mucous cyst, or ranula. It is a clear bump that can develop on the lips, floor or roof of the mouth, or tongue. You can use Ayurvedic Home Remedies for a Mucocele .
It usually occurs on the lower lip of the mouth. If the mucocele is small, it is usually painless. However, larger mucocele can cause some pain. They can even be painful to direct touch. Shallow mucoceles may burst and release straw-colored fluid. Deeper ones can last longer.

1. Honey

Honey is one of the best natural home remedies to treat a mucocele. The soothing and anti-inflammatory nature of honey can help in reducing the pain and inflammation.
Honey has proven antibacterial properties that help to prevent infection and also accelerate the healing process.

  • Take one teaspoon of raw honey and mix ¼ teaspoon of turmeric powder into it.
  • Apply the paste on the affected areas and leave it on for 15-20 minutes.
  • Then, gargle with lukewarm water. Repeat this process at least 2 or 3 times a day. Also, apply honey on the affected area before going to sleep every night.
  • 2. Salt

    A mucocele can be effectively treated using salt. Salt is a rich source of healing properties that provide relief from the problem of mucocele.

  • Add ½ tablespoon of salt in 1 cup of warm waterand mix it.
  • Use the solution as a mouthwash.
  • Repeat 3 or 4 times a day to get relief.
  • 3. Ice

    Ice is highly effective to relieve from the pain and irritation associated with large oral cysts. Ice is one of the most effective remedies to treat a mucocele.

  • Take a few ice cubes and wrap cubes in a thin washcloth.
  • Gently place it on the affected area for 1 minute to get relief.
  • Repeat this process few times a day.
  • Also, you can sip cold water from time to time to ease the discomfort.
  • 4. Glycerin

    Glycerin is one of the successful home remedies to treat a mucocele. It consists of antiseptic and healing properties that helps in fighting the bacteria causing the infection.
    It also keeps the affected area well-moistened, which is essential for quick healing.
    For oral use, it is highly recommended to use vegetable glycerin.

  • You can apply glycerine straightforward on the affected area.
  • Allow it to sit for as long as you can, then rinse your mouth with cool water.
  • Repeat 3 or 4 times a day.
  • Also, use a glycerin-based mouthwash to rinse your mouth several times daily.
  • 6. Aloe Vera

    Aloe vera is also effective in treating mucoceles. Aloe vera has anti-inflammatory and soothing properties that can help to relieve from the pain and get rid of the cyst quickly.
    It helps in bursting the cyst as well as prevents the recurrence of such cysts.

  • Take a fresh aloe vera leaf and extract the gel from the leaf. Apply it directly on the affected area.
  • Allow it to sit for 15 minutes, then rinse your mouth with lukewarm water.
  • Use this remedy a few times daily for several days.
  • You can also rinse your mouth with fresh aloe vera juice 3 or 4 times a day.
