Ayurvedic treatment for chicken pox

Chicken pox is a highly contagious viral infection that is mainly cause by varicilla zoster virus. It is mostly affected to children below 10 year. It is common during spring and winter season and its incubation period are for 2-3 weeks. It starts with a mild fever and then body ache. After 2 days of fever, red spots started to appears all over your body which turns into blister. The blister then turns into scabs later and it is quite itchy.




According to ayurveda, chicken pox is known as Laghu Masurika and it is cause due to vitiation of the three doshas. Here some of the natural ayurvedic treatment for chicken pox:

  • Carrot and coriander leaves:

  • Carrot and coriander leaves are an excellent remedy for treating chicken pox since it cools down the body. It should be taken as soup. Take some carrot and coriander leaves, chop them into tiny pieces and boil it in water for about 20-30 minutes. You can also add salt and pepper in it. Serve it warm daily.

  • Oatmeal:

  • Oatmeal is another effective ayurvedic treatment for chicken pox. Take some oatmeal and boil it in water for about 20 minutes. Strain the water and use it for bathing. It will reduce the itching and help to get relief from the chicken pox effectively.

  • Green pea:




  • Green pea helps remove the scars causes by the chicken pox. So take some green pea and boil it in the water for 10 minutes. Remove the pea from the water and make a paste out of it. Apply this paste on the scabs. It will reduce the itching and also remove the scars.

  • Baking soda:

  • Baking soda is very useful during chicken pox. It reduces the itching and also heals the blister soon. Take a tea spoon of baking soda and add it in a glass of water and mix it well. Use a sponge and apply it on the skin and make it dry.

  • Neem:

  • Neem or margosa leaves are known for its antiviral properties and is effective for treating all types of skin problems. It is the best ayurvedic remedy for treating chicken pox. Take some neem leaves and boil it in water. Use this water for bathing since it reduces itchiness and dry out the blisters and heal it. Or u can make a paste of it and apply on the blisters to heal it soon.

  • Honey:

  • Honey is known for its anti inflammatory and anti bacterial properties. Applying pure honey on the on the blisters help reduces the itching and heal it soon.

    You can also use some ayurvedic medicines like indukala vati, swarnamakshika bhasma, eladyarishta etc to cure chicken pox effectively.
